The Sloyd School offers instruction in traditional hand-tool woodworking using the Sloyd method to elementary and high school students in Jacksonville, Florida.

I enjoy this class so much

because the projects are interesting and Mr. Alex breaks the steps down, making it easy to understand. Working with hand tools makes me slow down and pay attention to details.  Mr. Alex is a great teacher and is always willing to help me out when I have questions.

9th grade Sloyd student

I love so much about sloyd.

First, the fact that the students do all the work themselves. Second, that they do it all with hand tools–there’s got to be significant learning there. Third, it forces them to go slow and think about what they’re doing. Fourth, they come home with useful projects. I don’t often see my son taking a sense of pride in his work like I do after Sloyd class!
